Abstract:
Hadron therapy, a promising yet less common cancer treatment, targets tumors more precisely than traditional X-ray treatments. However, effective hadron therapy requires precise dose planning, which necessitates accurate mapping of energy deposition within the tissue. Proton CT addresses this by using protons for imaging, providing a more accurate picture of the body's internal structures.

In our talk, we introduce an innovative proton imaging system that integrates modern algorithms and artificial intelligence for an efficient software backend, as well as a state-ofthe-art detector design from high-energy physics applications. This novel approach in medical imaging has the potential to significantly enhance the clinical effectiveness of proton therapy.

Speaker Profiles:
Dr. Gábor Biró is a research fellow at the HUN-REN Wigner Research Centre for Physics, Budapest, Hungary. He obtained his PhD in 2021 at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, in the topic of high-energy heavy-ion physics phenomenology.

Zsófia Jólesz is a PhD student at Eötvös Loránd University, supervised by G¡bor Biró and Gábor Papp. Her research topic is image reconstruction with proton computed tomography, on which she started working during her MSc. Both speakers are members of the Bergen Proton CT Collaboration within the framewonk or this project.
